DESCRIPTION
The first English translation of French archaeologist and traveller Leon de Labordes account of his travels through Asia Minor, Syria and Egypt, before entering the French diplomatic service.
In 1846, de Laborde was made curator of the Louvre Museum of Antiques, and in 1857 director-general of the archives of the Second French Empire.
Published originally in 1830 in French.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, vignette title page, two maps, one of which is folding, and a further twenty-three plates.
Collated, lacking plate opposite page 170.
Containing a bookplate from Richmond College to the front pastedown, and contemporary ink signatures to the front pastedown, front free-endpaper and front blank.

CONDITION
In the original cloth binding. Externally, shelf wear to the boards and fading to the extremities. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Cloth is split to the joints. Containing a bookplate from Richmond College to the front pastedown, and contemporary ink signatures to the front pastedown, front free-endpaper and front blank. Internally, hinges are strained, and binding is slightly tender. A few spots to the first and last few pages, and a few handling marks throughout, otherwise pages are generally clean.
