Historicnautical chart art print of PT109 commanded by Lieutenant John FKennedy during World War 2. --------------------------------------------------- PT-109was a PT boat (patrol torpedo boat) commanded by Lieutenant JohnF. Kennedy in the Pacific theater during World War 2. On Aug 2,1943 PT109 was severed in half by a Japanese destroyer but managedto stay afloat over 12 hours. The surviving crew made there way toan uninhabited Solomon Island avoiding sharks and Japanesepatrols. They were eventually recovered by Solomon Island scouts. JFK's actions to save his surviving crew after the sinking ofPT-109made him a war hero. Later JFK became president of the UnitedStates.
PT-109was a PT-103class boat built between 1942 and 1945 for service for the US Navyduring WW2. A PT boat (motor patrol boat) was a small,maneuverable and fast torpedo armed fast attack vessel (MTB). PT-109could accommodate a crew of three officers and 14 enlisted men.They were 80 feet and had strong wooden hulls ideal for speed butprovided very limited protection in a battle or torpedo attack.

WilliamB. MacGregor, Jr. was born in Medfield, MA, the son and grandson ofNorfolk Hunt Clubkennel masters. Manyof his family members were self taught artists, woodcarvers,automobile mechanics and veterans of foreign wars including hisfather a WW1 US Army veteran. Bill is agraduate of Medfield High School, Wentworth Institute,and Northeastern University. Hisengineering career, from which he is now retired, included workingfor military and aerospace companies in industrial engineering and IRoptics. Hispainting incorporates “old skool” mechanicaland civil drafting tools and he uses a mixed medium of watercolors,acrylics and inks. Two rabbits are often in quite a few of hispaintings. Look for them. He is frequently commissioned byUnited States Naval officers to create paintings of their ships andaircraft carriers on nautical charts. In May,2018, and for one year, four of Bill's automotive relatedpaintings were on display at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum inBrookline, MA.
